Forensic Surveys basically comprises the accurate measurement and mapping of any scene which may lead to legal activity (civil and/or criminal) in support of forensic engineering investigations, forensic architectural investigations or forensic crime scene investigations.  Generally, the purpose of a forensic survey is to locate cause, or to assist a court in determining the facts of an accident / crime.

It serves that these surveys would need to be carried out promptly before a scene could get modified or contaminated.  At the same time these surveys would need to be executed in as little time possible without sacrificing accuracy and simultaneously capturing the greatest possible amount of data.

Our emphasis on accuracy, attention to detail and commitment to integrity, as well as our innovative, yet practical approach to problem-solving have reaped Trail Surveys a national reputation in forensic surveys, in landmark legal cases such as the Oscar Pistorius murder trial, the SAPS vs Khuli Chana accidental shooting, and the Giraffe vs Garsfontein Bridge on National Road N1 accident.

Trail Surveys’ experience and ability to combine and integrate terrestrial scanning surveys with remote sensing, conventional engineering and cadastral survey products enables us to deliver an unsurpassed geomatics solution to our Clients, whilst discounting both time and cost on their projects.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS

Typical applications will comprise the following (but not limited to):

  • Accurate accident scene survey and 2D / 3D reconstructions.

  • Accurate surveys for engineering forensic investigations and reconstruction of scene in 2D or 3D CAD

  • Accurate surveys for architectural forensic investigations and reconstruction of scene in 2D or 3D CAD

  • Accurate surveys for scenes and reconstruction of scene in 2D or 3D CAD for any criminal and/or civil litigations

REQUIRED INFORMATION FOR OFFICIAL QUOTE

We understand that every project, site and client is different – as are their expectations of the required survey deliverables.  In order to “sharpen the pencil” and offer you the most cost and time effective geomatics solution, fit for the purpose you require the survey, we would need to acquire the following information from you:

  • Location of the survey – ideally a “Google Earth Placemark” send to us in kml/kmz format

  • The purpose of the survey and details on the Construction Project;

  • Details on the presentation of the survey data

    • Hardcopy / Softcopy
    • CAD Specifications / Drawing Layout
    • Digital data formats required for integration into your design / cad software
  • Specific logistic constraints getting access to the specific area of interest

  • SHEQ Requirements (Medicals / inductions / onboarding / PPE / Mine-ready vehicles etc)

  • Schedule / Program
